Controls heat/rut and pseudo-pregnancy with a minimum dose. Feline dermatology.
Description:
Progestagen contraceptive and /or dermatologic use for canines and felines.
Formula:
Each tablet contains: Megestrol Acetate 20 mg, auxiliary agents q.s. 280 mg.
Indications:
In bitches and she-cats: prevention or annulment of heat, treatment of estrogen-dependent tumors.
In dogs: treatment of hypersexuality, adenoma of perianal glands and prostate hypertrophy. In cats: treatment of hypersexuality, milliary dermatitis and eosinophylic granuloma.
Administration and dose:
Bitches:
To prevent or annul heat:
Normal Dose regime: Administer1 tablet every 10 kilos of weight per day during 8 days. The tablets should be administered as soon as the heat characteristics are evident, (vulvar turgidness/swelling and bloody losses through vulva). The heat manifestations (male attraction and bloody losses through vulva) disappear 2 to 3 days after the medication was started.
Extended Dose Regime: Administer1 tablet every 10 kilos of weight per day during 4 days and 1/4 tablet every 10 kilos of weight per day during 16 days.
To retard or postpone the heat.:
Normal Regime: administer 1/4 of a tablet for every 10 kilos of weight per day during 30 to 40 days. The treatment should commence 15 days before the date upon which the effect Is desired.
Extended Regime: administer 1/4 of a tablet for every 10 kilos of weight per day during 30 to 40 days, subsequently continuing with 1/4 of a tablet for every 10 kilos of weight, twice a week, throughout a period no longer than 4 months.
False pregnancy: administer 1 tablet per day for every 10 Kilos of weight during 8 days.
In estrogen-dependent tumors: administer a tablet every 10 kilos of weight per day during 5 days, subsequently continuing with 1/2 tablet per day for every 10 kilos during 10 days or more.
She Cats:
To prevent or annul heat: administer 1/2 tablet per day during 7 days, subsequently continuing with 1/4 of a tablet once or twice a week. The treatment should commence immediately upon perceiving the characteristic manifestations of the heat stage.
To retard or postpone heat:
1) administer 1/4 of a tablet during a period not longer than 2 months. The tablets should be administered when the she-cat is within the breeding season, but not within the heat season.
2) Administer 1/4 of a tablet once a week during a period not exceeding 18 months. Administer the tablets when the cat is not within the breeding season (sexual resting period).
Dogs:
Hipersexuality: the initial dose will be of 1 or 2 tablets every 10 kilos of weight during 14 days. In some cases a maintenance dose of ½ a tablet evey 10 kilos of weight once or twice a week may be administered.
In perianal glands adenoma: Administer 1 tablet per day, for every 10 kilos of weight, during 20 days or more.
Prostate hypertrophy: Administer 1 tablet per day every 10 kilos, subsequently continuing with 1/2 a tablet every 10 Kilos of weight, twice a week
Cats:
Hipersexuality: Administer 1/2 a tablet per day during 7 days, subsequently continuing with 1/4 of a tablet per day during 14 days. A maintenance dose of ¼ of a tablet once or twice a week may be indicated.
Milliary Dermatitis: ½ a tablet per day during 7 days, subsequently continuing with 1/4 of a tablet twice a week up to when a total cure is achieved. A maintenance dose of ¼ tablet per animal every 15 days is advisable.
Eosinophylic Granuloma: 1/2 a tablet per day every other day, up to when the regression of the lesion starts, subsequently continuing with 1/2 a tablet once a week up to the total regression.
